Genelia: I did not replace Jiah Khan

It's common news that Jiah Khan had shot for a substantial portion in Shahid Kapoor starrer CHANCE PE DANCE before she was asked to leave. Hunt for a new leading lady began soon after and Genelia D'Souza was roped in. While the entire footage featuring Jiah was reshot with Genelia D'Souza, the JAANE TU YA JAANE NAA girl states that she didn't ask film maker Ken Ghosh to show her the original portions.

'I didn't feel the need to do that at all', responds Genelia when asked to comment on the sensitive issue.

Given the fact that reason stated for Jiah's exit from CHANCE PE DANCE was 'change in characterization'; didn't Genelia believe that checking out the portions which were canned would have been helpful in some way? After all she would have been able to bring in a difference to the way she was going to emote in front of the camera?

'There was no point doing so because I wanted to approach my character in a totally fresh manner', says Genelia, 'The part had anyways been re-written so it was anyways a new character to begin with.'

Genelia also confirms that she didn't talk to Jiah before stepping in for the film. 'No, there weren't any conversations involved. In any case I hadn't replaced her. The makers (UTV and Ken Ghosh) had already taken the call and were looking for a leading lady. As per them I fitted the bill and hence I was in', she states.

A UTV Motion Pictures production, CHANCE PE DANCE is enjoying a solo release on 15th January.
